Defensively, Eastern Michigan is led by junior linebacker Tariq Speights, who has a team-high 58 tackles, including 11 solo. He also has one sack for nine yards and two pass breakups. Against Toledo, Speights had nine tackles, including two solo. He's had two double-digit tackle performances this season, including a 13-tackle effort against Ball State on Oct. 16.
Why Ohio can cover
Since the MAC moved to two divisions, the Bobcats and Eagles don't play very often anymore, but when they do, Ohio has gotten the best of Eastern Michigan more often than not, winning seven of the past eight meetings. Senior running back De'Montre Tuggle is an important part of the Bobcats' offense and leads the team in rushing, carrying 102 times for 622 yards (6.1 average) and seven touchdowns. His best game was a 17-carry, 201-yard and one touchdown performance at Akron on Oct. 2. Last week against Miami (Ohio), Tuggle rushed 11 times for 69 yards (6.3 average) and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 50 yards and a score.
Defensively, junior linebacker Bryce Houston has made his presence felt. He leads the Bobcats with 70 tackles, including 39 solo, with one-half sack. In last week's win over Miami (Ohio), Houston made seven tackles, including four solo. He has had four double-digit tackle games, including two in the past three games. At Buffalo on Oct. 16, Houston made 15 tackles, including 11 solo.
